Finance Director

The Finance Director is an evolving role, responsible for the management and coordination of the Firm’s finance function.  The Finance Director works proactively to establish accurate financial data, improve process, control costs, mitigate risk, and ensure proper internal controls. The Finance Director is a proven leader, effective in communicating with employees at all levels of the Firm to gain willing adherence to accounting processes and policies. Duties include fully grasping the Firm’s direction/vision, ensuring accurate financial data, and using the data to timely and effectively report on strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities, providing high quality guidance to the Firm’s management.

  • Oversee and manage the Firm’s financial data
  • Ensure compliance with Firm’s monthly workflows, reporting, and finance deadlines
  • Continuous review of current processes and implementation of new processes
  • Prepare and manage to annual budget, including monthly tracking and adherence
  • Establish and maintain accurate financial forecasts
  • Proactively identify/report on trends and variances
  • Prepare reports for management as requested
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, QuickBooks, Windows and client-management software (e.g., Clio)
  • Maintain expense reporting process, ensuring adherence to company policies
  • Ensure credit-related policies for clients are followed
  • Maintain current documentation of accounting systems, policies, and procedures
  • Work with external accountant to meet reporting deadlines
  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and accounts receivable are collected promptly
  • Calculate compensation owed to employees and independent contractors; process payroll and expense reimbursements
  • Assist with 401(k) Plan administration
  • Ability to work well and efficiently on-site in a mixed/open space environment
  • May include Human Resources and Operational duties


Education, Qualifications and Preferences

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. Preference given to candidates with related Master’s Degree.
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, including hands-on accounting experience.

Additional Notes

As part of the back-office team, this position will have regular interaction with the President, local Managing Attorneys, and support staff.
